Building Responsibly. Supporting Our Communities.

At FTD, responsible construction means more than delivering a successful project. It means considering the impact we have on the environment, investing in people, supporting the communities in which we work and maintaining high standards throughout our business.

Our approach to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is built around practical actions. From investing in the next generation of tradespeople and supporting local organisations to making more sustainable choices within our vehicle fleet, we are continually looking for ways to make a positive difference.

Environmental
Reducing Our Environmental Impact

We recognise our responsibility to reduce the environmental impact associated with our operations and the projects we deliver.

As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing our reliance on conventional diesel vehicles, we have started introducing hybrid pick-ups and vans into our fleet. This transition represents one of the practical steps we are taking to improve the environmental performance of our day-to-day operations.

Across our projects, we also look for opportunities to use materials and resources responsibly, minimise unnecessary waste and work collaboratively with our clients and supply chain to identify more sustainable ways of working.

Our environmental priorities include:

  • Continuing the transition towards lower-emission company vehicles

  • Reducing waste and encouraging reuse and recycling wherever practicable

  • Using materials, energy and resources efficiently

  • Considering responsible material and procurement choices

  • Minimising unnecessary journeys, fuel consumption and emissions

  • Protecting the local environment throughout our construction activities

  • Continually identifying practical opportunities to improve our environmental performance

Social
Creating Value Beyond Construction

Supporting people and communities is an important part of who we are.

We believe the value created by our business should extend beyond the buildings and maintenance services we deliver. We actively support local organisations, community events, grassroots sport and initiatives that make a positive difference to the people around us.

Supporting Our Local Communities

Each year, FTD supports a local community firework display, helping to bring the community together while raising funds for the local primary school.

We are also proud to support grassroots sport and local organisations through sponsorship. This includes sponsoring small local football teams and a local tractor pulling team, helping community organisations and teams continue the activities that bring people together.

Our community support also extends directly into some of the buildings we maintain across the North West. Each year, we donate paint to several of these properties for service users to use in decorating and improving their communal areas.

This provides useful materials while giving service users an opportunity to take an active role in improving and personalising the environments they share.

Investing in the Next Generation

Developing skills within the construction industry is another important part of our social commitment.

FTD typically employs two apprentices at any one time, providing individuals with the opportunity to gain practical experience, develop recognised skills and establish careers within the construction industry.

By investing in apprenticeships and on-the-job development, we are helping to develop the skilled workforce that our industry will depend upon in the future.

Our People

The health, safety and wellbeing of everyone working on our projects remains fundamental to our business.

We are committed to maintaining a working environment where people are treated fairly and with respect, have opportunities to develop and can carry out their work safely.

Our social priorities include:

  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety and wellbeing

  • Providing apprenticeship and training opportunities

  • Supporting skills development and career progression

  • Supporting local schools, community events and grassroots sport

  • Creating social value within the communities connected to our work

  • Supporting service users within properties we maintain

  • Promoting equality, inclusion and respect

  • Supporting local employment and businesses wherever practicable

Governance
High Standards.
Responsible Business.

Strong governance provides the foundation for the way FTD operates.

We are committed to conducting our business professionally, transparently and responsibly, supported by recognised industry accreditations, management systems and independent standards.

Our credentials include Constructionline Gold, CHAS and FIRAS, alongside our ISO certifications. These accreditations support our approach to areas including quality, health and safety, compliance and responsible business practices.

We also recognise the growing importance of Social Value within the construction industry. Our aim is to ensure that the projects and services we deliver contribute positively to clients, service users, our workforce and the wider communities in which we operate.

Our governance priorities include:

  • Maintaining recognised industry accreditations and management standards

  • Ethical and responsible business practices

  • Compliance with applicable legislation and industry requirements

  • Effective health, safety, environmental and operational risk management

  • Responsible procurement and supply-chain management

  • Fair and transparent relationships with clients, employees and subcontractors

  • Delivering and demonstrating Social Value

  • Continually reviewing and improving the way we operate

Our ESG Commitment

For FTD, ESG is about turning responsible business principles into practical action.

Whether we are supporting apprentices at the beginning of their careers, raising money for a local primary school, sponsoring grassroots teams, helping service users improve their communal spaces or transitioning our fleet towards hybrid vehicles, we want our business to make a positive contribution.

We know that responsible business is an ongoing process. As FTD continues to grow, we will continue looking for realistic and measurable ways to reduce our environmental impact, increase the Social Value we create and maintain the high standards our clients and communities expect from us.

We don't just want to build and maintain better places. We want the way we do business to leave a positive and lasting impact.
